General

No. It's gently-cooked food. We make it fresh, then freeze it.
You'll need to defrost the food before serving. Once defrosted, it will look like a crumble — it's ground meat mixed with vegetables and grain.

Our food is meant to be used as, well, food. Each recipe is reviewed by a veterinarian to confirm it has everything a dog needs to stay healthy.
You can use it as a complete meal to replace whatever you were feeding your dog before. You can also add it on top of kibble to give your dog some variety.
While you can use it as a treat, that's not how it was formulated so you'll have to get creative. For example, we've seen people mix it with bone broth and freeze it. Be mindful of overfeeding.

Well for one, all of our food is made here on island. We (Forest and Kenyon) cook every batch ourselves and can certify that it's made with love. Can the big kibble brands say that?
-
Yes, 100%. All of our recipes have been expertly formulated to ensure that they meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for Adult Dogs. A veterinarian reviews each one of our recipes.

How It's Made?
3 questions
-
All of our food is gently cooked in small batches in a commercial, human kitchen in Wahiawa. Gently cooked just means that we cook it to the minimum temperature required to kill pathogens, but the food still retains the maximum amount of nutritional value.
It's made right here on O'ahu and always will be.
-
No, we do not include any preservatives.
-
All of the necessary protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals in our food come exclusively from whole food ingredients and concentrated superfoods such as kelp and cod liver oil. It really is that simple. Go ahead and read our ingredient lists — everything should look familiar to you (unless you've never heard of carrots).
Feeding & storage
2 questions
-
First, use our online feeding calculator to figure out how much you should feed your dog each day. Your food will come frozen, so defrost it in the fridge overnight. You can also defrost a few days at a time, but make sure to feed it to your pup within 3–4 days of defrosting.
For example, our dog needs about 1 lb of food per day (which is how much one bag weighs). At breakfast we pour about half the bag into a bowl, store the rest in the fridge, and give her the other half at dinner. Easy.
Our food also works great as a topper if you're not ready to make the transition to 100% fresh food yet.
-
Your food will be good for about 6 months while frozen. When you defrost, it will be good for about a week. This is fresh, human-grade food that has no preservatives. Treat it like you would your own food.
Ingredients & sourcing
2 questions
-
We typically look for two things when sourcing ingredients: origin and whether the item is organic. In Hawai'i, it's often a tradeoff. For example, grass-fed local beef may not be certified organic, but it's still a net-positive for our community.
We do our best to find the best quality ingredients possible. Our first choice is always local. When that's not possible, we'll use organic ingredients from the mainland US.

We believe in a well-rounded diet for dogs, which includes high-quality grains as a valuable source of nutrition. Grains like barley and quinoa offer important nutrients such as fiber, essential fatty acids, and easily digestible carbohydrates that provide energy. Grains also help support digestion and maintain a healthy coat.
We know some pet parents prefer grain-free diets, and we respect that choice. For some dogs with specific allergies or sensitivities, a grain-free diet may work better. However, for most dogs, grains are a beneficial and natural part of a balanced diet. Our recipes use only high-quality grains and are carefully formulated to meet all nutritional standards. We are intentional with our use of grain and never use it as a "filler" — it typically makes up only 5–10% of the total recipe.
